As an International Conference Chair and Panel Moderator I wanted to offer a few tips to speakers who will be on stage at Riyadh International Industry Week (21-24 June) in Riyadh.
Have you ever watched a speaker who appeared completely at ease on stage and assumed they were a natural on stage?
Is Confidence and Charisma Important?
In reality, what audiences often interpret as confidence is usually the result of preparation and familiarity. The most effective speakers are not necessarily the most extroverted or charismatic. They are the ones who have prepared thoroughly, understand their message, and know what they want the audience to learn about.
Managing Your Nerves
Many senior executives and government officials tell me they still experience nerves before speaking. The difference is that they have developed routines that help them manage those nerves effectively. Remember, the audience is not expecting perfection. They are looking for authenticity, clarity, and expertise.
Feel and Look Comfortable
The goal is not to feel completely relaxed. The goal is to appear comfortable enough that your message becomes the focus, not your nerves. Make eye contact with the audience, not the panel moderator. Use your hands and facial expressions to express yourself. This creates an impression of authenticity and demonstrates your expertise.
